Gdansk University of Technology

Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) is the largest technical university in the Pomeranian Region and one of the oldest technical universities in Poland. The first inauguration of the academic year took place on 4th October, 1904. The University was erected in Gdafsk, the city with historical tradition of over 1000 years and the largest maritime, cultural and scientific center.

The University employs over 2500 staff, including nearly 1200 academic teachers (108 titular professors, 140 associate professors and 529 assistant professors). The measure of the university's achievements in research and development is the yearly contribution of over 3000 publications, nearly 300 of which appear in the world's most renowned scientific journals of ISI list and more than 100 are scientific monographs and academic textbooks.

Impressive premises of GUT are occupied by 9 faculties, including Engineer, Master of Science and Postgraduate studies conducted in full time and part time systems within the scope of majority of areas of science and technology. Over 24 000 students are enrolled in the following faculties: Architecture, Chemical, Electronics, Telecommunication and Informatics, Electrical and Control Engineering, Applied Physics and Mathematics, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, Management and Economics.

GUT provides its students with a vast access to information resources localized in specialist departmental computing laboratories as well as two open laboratories in Information Technology Center. In GUT there operates Information Center of Tricity Academic Computer Network (CI TASK). CI TASK cooperates in the development of national optical fiber broadband network, PIONIER, serving the purpose of creating Information Society. Last but not least example of the university's adaptation to the 21st century challenges is the recent installation of 1344 processors' (5376 cores) supercomputer cluster GALERA, most powerful in Poland and ranked as belonging to the most exclusive group of fastest machines in the World (see Top 500 listing).

Our educational offer. We provide a broad range of courses to be chosen for students. At nine faculties we offer the choice among 27 majors. Depending on the personal needs we may also offer a tailor-made courses to suit the diversified interest of the individuals. For post graduate students we offer over 40 different fields of study as well as MBA studies. For those who wish to learn Polish we are also prepared to give an appropriate course. Our students can use specialist labs, libraries and sport facilities. Apart from that they are welcome to participate in any of 60 scientific circles, language clubs and student organizations. In order to support the international students at our university both the International Relations Office and Erasmus Student Network serve a professional aid at every step of the application process and further stay at our university.

International cooperation. We cooperate with over 200 different universities and institutions in the fields of technical sciences in research and teaching from all over the world. Our scholars give lectures or participate in international exchange programmes in various foreign academic institutions. Every year two hundred students of our university go abroad to study, many of them manage to obtain double diplomas. Our graduates have been achieving scientific success and holding executive positions in institutions located worldwide, from Asia throughout Europe and both Americas to Australia.

A wonderful experience

I really enjoyed studying in Poland at Gdansk University of Technology.
In a first time I chose to come here for my chemical engineering training period because of the high level of the qualities of studies and the fame of the chemical faculty. But when I was here I got really more than expected! I met a lot of friendly and helpful polish and foreign people, and I gained a very good experience working with them on very interesting projects. Working in the lab with scientists of such a wide range of knowledge and who are so thoughtful with ERASMUS students was not only a pleasure but also a real luck and an amazing first step in my professional life!
Strong of its nearness with the sea, its soft climate and a rich history, Gdansk is a fantastic city that I recommend to everybody. It’s impossible to be bored and the student life takes all its sense there…
I’m just looking forward to my next stay here!
