The University School of Physical
Education in Wroclaw (AWF) is a public university with more than 4,500 students from Poland and abroad. It is a very dynamic and one of the fastest growing higher education institutions focused on teaching and learning in the field of sport,
physical education and physiotherapy.
Since 1946 – for more than sixty years, the
University School of Physical Education in
Wroclaw (AWF) has provided academic excellence, research and sport for its community. It is a place where theory and sport practice join together to build a better foundation for development of
physical education and sport science.

Academics
The academic programme reaches its quality based on teaching staff, great library, modern didactic rooms and excellent sport
facilities which help students thrive academically and in sport performance. Our 2 faculties:
Faculty of Physical Education and Faculty of
Physiotherapy provide opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and professional education, all influenced by AWF distinctive interdisciplinary approach to learning and researching.
A new Institute of Sport is the only academic place in Poland that provides an academic
programme educating experts in the field of sport management and high quality sport coaching education.
At present the university offers three-degree
studies: Bachelor, Master and PhD of Physical Education Science, Sport Science and Physiotherapy Sciences with 10 specializations. These
degrees provide students with an interdisciplinary knowledge of physical education, sport, health, fitness and well-being that is drawn from a
variety of traditional academic areas, such as: anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, philosophy, psychology, didactics, and sport and rehabilitation sciences.
University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw provides a large offer of courses in
English (more than 30 subjects) as a part of LLP ERASMUS Programme. We are currently working on launching a full time course in English ending with an official degree in 2011.
For many years our University has been ranked the best among Sport University in the country.
Reformation of degree structures
A major reform of the degree structures according to the Bologna Declaration is now completed at the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw. The major of the reform – the ECTS (The European Credit Transfer System) and three cycle studies will help to standardize the degree structures and make them more comparable across Europe. It means that the First cycle (undergraduate) studies will take 3 years and the second cycle (post-graduate) studies – 2 years to complete. As a result of the reform international students from European Union countries can complete full time studies at AWF in Wroclaw.

Stadium, beautiful AWF campus is the arena of all AWF activities: academic, athletic, research and student life. Two of AWF faculties are located
within walking distance of one another.
AWF is home to a number of centres and
laboratories that are designed to facilitate research of graduate students and their academic supervisors. These include among the others: the Laboratory of Biomechanical Analysis, the Laboratory of Exercise and Research, the Laboratory of Functional
Examination in Internal Diseases.
Besides the research base, University has an
impressive number of modern and well equipped sport facilities including: athletics stadium, tennis hall, indoor swimming pool, and two large multifunctional sport halls. Campus sport and recreational facilities lead in the innovative glance on health, sport and recreation programmes that inspire our University community: academics, students and support workers to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Student Hostel SPARTAKUS provides safe, and affordable living and learning housing
facilities for students and guests.
Academic city of Wroclaw
The University
School of Physical Education (AWF) is located in Wroclaw, the largest city in western Poland, capital of the region of Lower Silesia. The city of Wroclaw as one of the biggest academic centres of Poland, of more than 100000 students is a vital, multicultural and dynamic developing city. The reason of the unique atmosphere is probably due to the turbulent history of the city that reaches back more than one thousand years. In combination with a tremendous selection of social, sport and recreational activities provided by both the AWF campus and the city itself, it is hard to find a better place with vibrant atmosphere to conducive high quality studying.
International cooperation
The University School of Physical Education (AWF) participates actively in international research programmes, especially in the EU Framework Programmes in the fields of physical education, health, physiotherapy and sport. For 10 years AWF has participated in Lifelong Learning Programme ERASMUS. This cooperation has resulted in bilateral exchange agreements with more than 50 universities around Europe. Annually about 50 international students study at the University School of Physical
Education (AWF), and about 50 of Polish students spend an exchange period abroad.
